ZACK'S SKY PAGE looking up since forever

ATTENTION EARTH

I don't think
we're alone.

I also don't think every weird light is an alien. Please stop saying I said that.

My position

The universe is ridiculously large.

There are more planets than Zack can reasonably think about before breakfast.

Somewhere in all of that, I think life probably happened more than once.

Intelligent life? Maybe.

Visiting us? That's the difficult part.

FIELD EQUIPMENT current setup

10×50 binoculars

cheap tripod that leans slightly left

phone

compass

notebook

red flashlight

thermos

patience

SKY LOG

Things I looked at for too long.

Two white points moving west

Parallel path. Constant speed. No sudden movement.

probably satellites
Bright object low in the northwest

Did not move for twenty-three minutes.

Venus
Three lights, triangular arrangement

Looked exciting for approximately twelve seconds.

aircraft
Single amber light

No obvious navigation lights. Changed direction once. Lost behind trees.

SEE? I CAN IDENTIFY THINGS.

THINGS I THINK

  • Life elsewhere is plausible.
  • Microbial life elsewhere would already be enormous news.
  • Most UFO sightings probably have ordinary explanations.
  • Some observations remain genuinely unexplained.
  • Not knowing something is allowed.
  • The sky is much more interesting if you actually look at it.

THINGS I AM NOT SAYING

  • Every unexplained light is extraterrestrial.
  • I have classified information.
  • I work for NASA.
  • I have met an alien.
  • The pigeon incident proves anything.
IMPORTANT EVENT

THE PIGEON INCIDENT

I saved a pigeon once.

The pigeon was standing in a location that was, in my professional opinion, extremely suspicious.

I removed the pigeon from the immediate area.

Roughly ninety seconds later, something happened.

███████████████████████████

I have been advised not to discuss the rest.

Cindy would like me to clarify that nobody has actually advised me not to discuss this.

The pigeon is fine.

A MORE RESPONSIBLE PERSON

My friend Cindy thinks about this stuff too.

She cares about probability, evidence, life, intelligence and whether we're asking the right questions.

She also says I use the word “definitely” incorrectly.

CINDY'S SITE →

If her site isn't there yet, she is probably still rewriting the section about the Fermi paradox.

IF YOU SEE SOMETHING WEIRD:

  1. look at it
  2. note the time
  3. note the direction
  4. check aircraft
  5. check satellites
  6. check planets
  7. then get excited
